ESEA S14 CS:GO EU Intermediate Week 5 Power Rankings

A "Aluminati" R on Thu, 06/27/2013 11:28PM
With the first round of week five matches, on de_mill, finishing up and many teams looking forward to their second match, on Sunday, it’s time for another set of power rankings for our EU Intermediate league. This time I’ll be looking at how the last week of matches have passed before looking towards next week.

ESEA CS:GO S14 Intermediate - Week 5 Power Rankings

1. No change in our number one spot this week as Lemondogs continue their dominant run in the Intermediate league. They played one of their dust2 matches this week and defeated Kraftlaget relatively easily 16-10. They would also collect a default against one of the other top contenders, team 3DMAX, after they failed to attend the scheduled date. On Sunday Lemondogs will meet the up and comers of Mysterious Monkeys (who I am told are transferring back to team jbree soon ). This could definitely be on to watch as MM took down top Swedish team WRTT on mirage and have the bonus of playing in Season 13 so they will be no strangers to mill. Lemondogs on the other hand do not have this benefit so may find themselves struggling if they have no adequately prepared. However, I think with a little bit of practice they should be able to close this one out on pure skill alone. Lemondogs really face a challenge next week playing against a top UK team representing Reason Gaming as well as the Germans of team Alternate. This set of matches will definitely be a big factor in deciding who will be taking the top seeds this season.

2. Rising up the rankings this week are Reason Gaming after a monstrous comeback against the Spanish side of einheit; on dust2. Reason started their Counter Terrorist side 12-3 down but managed to claw back to clinch the victory 16-14. They would also beat the Germans of Mysterious Monkeys comfortably at 16-10. On mill they will face Gunrunners (ex-NecroRaisers) as well as the Spaniards of Wizards eSports club. Reason default won both their matches last season on mill so I’m not sure what to expect of them but I believe that they it is definitely within their capabilities to take both of these matches. As I mentioned before they will meet the Intermediate leaders named Lemondogs, on inferno, to decide the first place seeding this season. Reason will also face the French team 3DMAX for their second inferno match. These guys have really got a tough two weeks ahead of them but these will definitely be the most interesting matches of the season and will be vital in deciding the top seeds going into the playoffs.

3. Mysterious Monkey (aka team Jbree) are moving up to rank three this week after a 16-11 win, on mill, over their fellow German team Alternate. They lost their only dust2 match (as they played three on cache) 16-10 against Reason Gaming (as I mentioned earlier. Next up, on mill, they will face the might of Lemondogs and I fear this is a match that will go horrifically one sided. However, after MM’s big shock against Swedish WRTT combined with Lemondogs lack of experience on this map then this match could still go either way.

4. Another German team advancing up one spot this week are Alternate ATTAX who are finished with both of their de_mill matches. After losing out to Mysterious Monkeys 16-11 Alternate obviously regrouped and worked on their mill as they would then crush French team 3DMAX 16-3. On inferno they face the Spaniards of Wizards club as well as Lemondogs and these are two really tough matches for Alternate and will definitely need to bring their highest level of play if they intend to be taking either or both of these matches.

5. Good news, although the Swedes of WRTT haven’t played any of their mill matches, they scheduled them back till later, they have stated that they are still going to keep playing this season and the mid-season default against Wizards appears to have been a mistake in scheduling by them. On mill they are facing Dignitas and Gunrunners: I would usually expect WRTT to take this relatively easily but since this is mill and only one member of WRTT played last season then these matches are still in the air. It all depends how much effort WRTT will put into these maps.

6. Re-entering the power rankings this week are the UK teamCRG who triumphed over the French 3DMAX 28-26 marathon of match. CRG only have one match on mill this week against the Germans of Druckwelle, who dominated the Spanish team einheit 16-3 for the first match this week. This another close game to call as I don’t know what line-up CRG will field for this match and few of their players boast much experience on this map. Also with a host of UK LAN events, which don’t feature mill, coming up I don’t know how committed they will be to preparing this map.

7. With so many teams moving up this week there has to be some moving down and this week it’s 3DMAX. I’ve already mentioned both of their most recent losses so let’s move on and not dwell on the past too much. Looking to the future I’ve also mentioned both of their inferno games against MM and Reason Gaming and these could deal some serious damage to 3DMax’s otherwise impressive record this season. However, as you may have watched on GMX’s regular stream the team has attended a long boot camp recently and this should mean their team is on top form on the regular maps. I’m defeinitely expecting some big matches coming out of them despite such tough opponents.

8. Wizards retain their spot this week after two wins, on dust2, against WRTT (disappointing to see) and 16-14 against the Danes of Zet eSports. As I mentioned before Wizards will be meeting Reason Gaming on Sunday. They will also possibly be facing the Poles of MaxFloPlay (who were removed from their organisation and haven’t taken off the tag yet) although this match could result in a default after peetz was removed from the team last week. It appears MaxFloPlay have given up with ESEA after default losing their last three matches. They had a good run at the start of the season and could potentially battle for a spot at the bottom of the playoffs but it seems they have thrown in the towel, unfortunately.

9. Dignitas also hold their spot this week after losing 16-14 to Wizards they have not yet played their second match on dust2 (against fellow UK team CRG). They would beat Spanish einheit 16-10 on dust2 before collecting a default, on mill, against MaxFloPlay. Dignitas dominated last season’s regular division so they should have a fair amount of experience for their second mill match against WRTT. On skill level I have WRTT against them but Dignitas could certainly beat them if they’ve put their mind to mill and the Swedes haven’t. However, as I mentioned there are a couple of UK events coming up and mill might just have been put to the side. However, if Dignitas have focused on mill and beat WRTT then they could definitely be in a position to take a top 3 seed.

10. Moving into the 10th spot this week are the German EPS team Druckwelle who enjoyed a relatively easy first win against einheit 16-3. Since I went over their second game, against CRG, previously I won’t reiterate what I said before. On inferno they face Decerto as well as MaxFloPlay and expect these matches to go pretty smoothly for the German team and I expect them to close both of these matches and for them to be aiming for a good seed moving into the playoffs
