ESEA S13 CS:Source Open Week 8 Power Rankings

    b "verizon-" r on Tue, 03/05/2013 3:45AM

Here are your power rankings after week 8, as ranked by the top 10 playoff seeds.

    ESEA S13 CS:S Open - Week 8 Power Rankings

    TEAMRANKCOMMENTS

    Team Gosu
    Central
    0-0-0 (.000)
    Streak N/A
    1. Gosu is looking to be in invite form after taking down CyberRev in their final match of the regular season. With a record of 14-2, Gosu has earned the top seed in this season's postseason, which is always great for the reason that you get side choice until the grand finals. However, they will not have a walk in the park for their first playoff match, as their opponent is actually deceptively good. Whatever the case is, there are a few ex-invite teams/pugs in the postseason this season, so the road to the grand prize won't be nearly as easy as some of the past seasons of open.

    PTW: TORRR

    Out of Nowhere
    Central
    1-0-0 (1.000)
    Streak W1
    2. HAUSEN didn't bring the A-Team to their match against Shariselle, and as a result, that costed them the top seed in the regular season. However, second still isn't bad, and with a very talented group of experienced players ready to go on the bench, HAUSEN is arguably the best team in terms of roster talent. DaZeD, ML, ak-nY, KDZ, darth. That's the team I'm looking for, and that will be the team to win open if they play every match.

    PTW: DaZeD

    Brian Rank Gaming

    3. My hope for this team was for StrickeN to start the playoffs, because if that did happen, this team would probably have had an equal chance at winning the division as either one of the two invite teams above them. However, I was told that that was unlikely to happen, which really makes this team's goal of winning it all hard. The team I'd go with would be jayy, roca, naf, mainline, +5th, but that is unlikely to happen. The 3rd seed definitely isn't bad though, and the team definitely has ample time to decide what they want to do.

    PTW: roca

    Shariselle Gaming
    Central
    0-0-0 (.000)
    Streak N/A
    4. Out of the top 5 teams, Shariselle is probably one of the hottest. They have recent wins over CODEY IS GAY and HAUSEN, and have been playing with their invite-exp'd starting 5 for the past few weeks. This is the same group of guys that won a competitive season of main without any practice (while other teams were), and now that everyone else isn't practicing, I'd actually probably give Shariselle the edge. Either way, this team is the lowest seeded of the group of invite pugs, but definitely isn't playing like the 4th seeded team.

    5. Hackers Anonymous CSS rounds out the top 5, following an OT win over CyberRev. While the teams ranked above them are what I consider "invite pugs", this team really isn't that far behind. oxide, laserjesus, and Prophet have all played their fair share of league, and I'd probably bundle this team up as a "top main pug". What I really meant to say is that in this season, this team has just as good of a chance of winning it all as the teams above them, mainly because they also have the individual talent needed to compete with what remains of the competition. With no team actually being a real "team", it's just a group of individual players, and I can't really rank this team any worse in individual skill in comparison to the top teams. I'll just have to wait and see what these guys bring to the table during the postseason.

    PTW: oxide

    6. The Zoo finished out their season with 4 wins, which was what I expected considering they had the bulk of their hard matches done with by week 6. While they've lost to 3 of the teams above them and beat 2, I still consider this team a step down from the top of the division. Most of the top teams have not brought their A-game during the regular season, which is definitely something for a team like this to watch out for. I just can't see these guys winning a rematch against Gosu, even with the amount of time this team spends on source. However, stranger things have happened in the past (Sambuca's crew dethroning my 20-0 IM team, Panic winning last season of main with a 9-7 regular season record), so I'm not counting these guys out just yet.

    CyberRevolution
    Central
    0-0-0 (.000)
    Streak N/A
    7. CyberRev ended their season on a 3 game losing skid, with all 3 losses being against teams ranked above them. I'd honestly lump CyberRev in the "top main" category, because from experience, these guys have what it takes to compete with the best. While my "starting 5" prediction hasn't been held true 100% of the time, I'd say that these guys have the capability to make it into the top 5 this season depending on who they match up against and what map it is. On the flip side, they do also have CSGO open to deal with, and it might be hard to schedule both games' playoffs, which is definitely a concern.

    PTW: lacombe

    HITTING NERVES
    Central
    0-0-0 (.000)
    Streak N/A
    8. HUT 2 3 4 got into the playoffs through an extremely easy schedule caused by their early season failures, which resulted in a record of 11-5. While I'm not denying that there is top tier talent on the team (Khalil Basi, Koth, etc), I don't believe that this team will be able to compete in the later rounds against the main/invite pugs that have no weak players whatsoever. I do expect a win or two from these guys, but not a very deep playoff run.

    PTW: Khalil Basi

    Aesir Gaming
    Central
    0-1-0 (.000)
    Streak L1
    9. Much like HUT 2 3 4, Aesir Gaming rode their 0-3 start to an extremely schedule which led them to a 10-6 record and the playoffs. Normally, I don't count teams out before they show me what they are made of, but these guys just got stomped by Gosu 16-1 to finish out the season, which definitely isn't a good sign. Considering that they will play against HUT 2 3 4 in the first round of playoffs, a team that just recently beat them 16-10, the future doesn't look that great for Aesir right now.

    10. SOG had a chance to prove to me that they were worthy of a power ranking spot this week, as they faced CODEY IS GAY and HAUSEN on the traditionally balanced season. However, they got a combined total of 8 rounds in those two matches, so that's that. Much like the two teams above them, I feel like that this season of open is really a 4-5 team race, and SOG is not one of those teams. In any other season of open, this roster probably would have placed top 4. Not this season though.
