ESEA S14 CS:GO EU Intermediate Week 6 Power Rankings

A "Aluminati" R on Wed, 07/03/2013 11:30PM
Week five of Season 14 was played on one of our least popular maps, in Europe, de_mill_ce. However, this didn't appear to faze many of the top teams in the Intermediate league as we saw several standard results moving into week six which will be played on de_inferno_se. We're reaching a very interesting spot in the league as we see teams desperately battling for a playoff spot and the teams at the top of the rankings are now colliding to claim a top seed.

ESEA CS:GO S14 Intermediate - Week 6 Power Rankings

1. Lemondogs really disappointed me this week after another default loss this season. On inferno they will face two extremely tough opponents. One of which is the current rank one team in the standings and number two in these power rankings, a UK organisation that is draped his history from Source and whose roster currently boasts several of the UK's best. It is Reason Gaming. This match will definitely be the one to watch next week as it will directly influence who takes the number one seed moving into the playoffs. Lemondogs will also face the top German side of Alternate ATTAX who similarly have shown promise throughout the season. I think Lemondogs definitely has the potential and talent to take both of these matches but I really fear that they may not turn up to take their place at the top of the Intermediate league.

2. Holding down second place this week are Reason who as I mentioned before will be playing against Lemondogs on inferno. Reason easily dispatched the Spanish Wizards 16-8 on mill. They are still yet to play their second mill match against Slovakian team Gunrunners. However, I definitely expect Reason to be able to close out that match relatively easily. On inferno they will face two of their hardest matches this season. As I mentioned in my rank one paragraph they will be facing the top Swedes of Lemondogs. For their second match they will face the French 3DMax line-up who recently placed second at the PXL38 LAN event. This is a hard match to call but I think Reason have the edge going into this game.

3. Our top three spots remain unchanged as Mysterious Monkeys will also retain their spot this week after they beat their fellow German side Alternate 16-11 on mill. I was dissapointed to see Mysterious Monkeys take the default win off of Lemondogs this week as I was looking forward to seeing how the top Swedish side would fair on a map which they have little/no experience of. On inferno the Germans will face the Spanish Wizards as well as the French team 3DMAX. I'm expecting MM to take these matches given their recent performance but I am definitely prepared to eat my words as 3DMAX are coming out of a substantial bootcamp so I am expecting them to be prepared on this standard pool map.

4. We've haven't seen any movement in the rankings so far as Alternate will also keep their spot after crushing the French 3DMAX 16-3 on de_mill. I was unsure of how this match might go but it appears the French side's inexperience on the map (not that Alternate had played it competitively before either) combined with their preparation for PXL-LAN meant that they appeared to be completely unprepared for the match as they struggled to get any rounds against the Germans. On inferno they face the daunting task of playing against Lemondogs and although I think the Germans have a chance of winning I definitely believe it is a slim one. For their second inferno match they will face Wizards and I expect them to be able to take this relatively easily. This team comes from a source background so I definitely expect them to be putting up some good matches in week seven on season.

5. WRTT have default won both of their inferno matches after being drawn against the dead MaxFloPlay and iNation. They are still behind other teams on the rankings however as they haven't played either of their mill matches yet. They will have to face, on mill, Gunrunners and Team Dignitas. Although I would normally expect WRTT to close out these matches relatively easily I am not sure how they will compete on mill and both of these teams played in last season's open league so will already be familiar with the map and may already have an idea of they want to play it. I expect WRTT to be able to take both of these matches but I am definitely open to the idea that they lose.

6. Still no changes here are CRG comfortably shut down Finnish team theOSUJAT 16-10 as well as their fellow UK side Dignitas 16-13 on dust2. CRG only had one match on mill, which was played earlier, against the German side Druckwelle and they would also manage to take that relatively comfortably 16-11. On inferno CRG will face UK team FourKings as well as the Slovakian team Gunrunners and I expect them to take these matches with similar ease. This would put them 10-2 in the league which would put them in a fantastic position to take a top seed moving into the playoffs.

7. Moving up to 7th this week are the Danes of Zet eSports who drew several of their initial games against the toughest teams of the Intermediate league. They've recovered in a remarkable fashion though as they currently sit on a four match winning streak after beating the Finns of theOSUJAT 16-13 and the UK team Four Kings 16-12 on mill. They have already won one of their matches on inferno due to being matches against the dead Infected Nation. For their other game they will be facing the UK team Decerto who I believe are dead after default losing their last two matches. Although Zet don't appear to be in the position to be taking a top spot moving into the playoffs I definitely think they are capable holding a top 8 spot.

8. Down a spot this week are the French team 3DMAX who as I mentioned in an earlier paragraph recently placed second at the PXL-LAN after losing to top Open contender ClanMystik 2-0 in the Finals. As I mentioned previously they were crush this week by Alternate on mill. They will be playing both of their inferno matches this weekend against two very tough opponents: Reason Gaming and Mysterious Monkeys. Although 3DMAX have lost both of their last two matches I think they stand a good chance of taking either or both of these matches depending on how sucessful their recent bootcamp was. However, these are definitely two extremely difficult opponents who are definitely going to put up two hard games.

9. We haven't seen much from Dignitas this week as they default won their match against MaxFloPlay on mill and are yet to play their second mill game. On inferno they face theOSUJAT as well the as Gunrunners and I'm expecting Dignitas to definitely be able to take both of these matches. I think all of their team originate from a Source background so I'm expecting them to stand a good chance of taking their two season matches although they face two really tough opponents in the form of Mysterious Monkeys and Reason Gaming.

10. Holding the same spot from last week are the Germans of team Druckwelle who have just collected two default wins on inferno due to Decerto failing to put a line-up together in time for their match and the Polish team MaxFloPlay disbanding. I believe this team spans from a Source background so they should have the advantage on Season as they go into week seven where they face Wizards as well as Kraftlaget. If they take these two matches then Druckwelle can definitely expect to be making top 8 moving into the playoffs.
