ESWC 2011 with CS, adds CS:S

    B "Few" S on Thu, 02/24/2011 3:09PM
ESWC made its comeback last year in an attempt to reestablish itself as one of the major international tournaments. ESWC has announced its first selections of 2011 First Person Shooter games.

    NaVi 1st at ESWC 2010
This year will see the return of both Counter-Strike 1.6 Males and Counter-Strike 1.6 females. Adding to that list will be the addition of Counter-Strike:Source. Many recent international tournaments have put up a voting option for fans to encourage a game to be added. The CS:S community has long wanted to be included in the bigger tournaments alongside CS 1.6. ESWC will be one of the first tournaments to announce the games side-by-side on an international level.

"Since Source has an increasingly active community, Games-Solution aims to satisfy the expectations of both players and spectators and maintain its level of excellence in the world of competitive gaming," states the ESWC announcement.

They have promised to add more games to the list for 2011 that will be announced soon. The Grand Finals for ESWC 2011 will take place in France this fall with a $220,000 prize pot.

Finally some recognition for the source community.

As much as i hate to say it, but I do think it has to do with the recent updates, the updates got more people curious and back into the game, plus more tournaments look at the game as refurbished and "up to code."

#11 what are you talking about? Cs 1.6 was always alive especially in ESWC. It's just news that CSS got a chance in being big tournament.

#24 where did I say 1.6 wasn't alive???? My use of "return" doesn't mean it went away. Just commenting on the fact that once again, 1.6 is included which is great news. It would be terrible if css replaced it so I said it's great to see 1.6 return, coupled with the addition of css.

So the fact that 1.6 continues to receive support and css has also been added is something we can all smile about

TF2 needs a big LAN to get some recognition. Nobody takes the game seriously when they look at the game from an outside perspective since it is, when pubbed, a game designed to not require a large amount of skill to play. However when you play it 6v6 in a serious manner it becomes a completely different game. It has the potential, it just needs a breakthrough LAN to get popularized.

    Just my little rant...
